Many companies not only encourage employees to donate to nonprofits, but also have matching programs. When your company matches donations, you can easily make a greater impact.

An “employee matching gift” is a donation an employer makes to match your contribution to For example, this is usually a dollar-for-dollar match. If you’re not sure who to ask, your human resources representative can usually help you with the next steps. If they don’t know, they can show you who helps with Make sure you have your donation receipt on hand.

If you decided to support a specific teacher or school, make sure to include their information. Usually you can include this in a field called “designation” or “notes.” Doing so will ensure your donation will reach your teacher or school as quickly as possible. Include the following information:

  • Teacher first and last name
  • School name
  • City and state
