Award-winning actor and singer Taye Diggs teamed up with AdoptAClassroom.org and our corporate partner Burlington Stores, this back-to-school season to announce our 3rd consecutive year of partnership where customers are asked to donate $1 or more at check out to support AdoptAClassroom.org. To celebrate, Taye joined us in awarding the New York City Department of Education with $100,000 for instruments and supplies for the districts’ high needs schools’ music programs. The Broadway star was raised by a family of teachers, so supporting music education spanning all six Manhattan school districts is a cause very close to his heart.

“My mother is a teacher, so I grew up in a home where education came first,” said Diggs. “I am incredibly humbled to be able to help the cause and spread the word. It’s so critical that we all do our part to help teachers so their students get the supplies they need to thrive in the classroom and have the education they deserve.”

The New York City students attending the surprise event were overwhelmed to discover their music program would receive the back-to-school funding it needed. In a beautiful moment of celebration, Diggs joined the student choir in an impromptu round of “Seasons of Love,” the hit song made popular from Diggs’ Broadway musical, RENT.
