Burlington Empowers 1.3 Million PreK-12 Students

Since 2017, Burlington, the national discount retailer, has helped equip more than 1.3 million students in their store communities nationwide with the school supplies they need to thrive in school and build brighter futures.

During the 2023 back-to-school season, Burlington raised an additional $1.6 million for local high-needs classrooms during their seventh annual in-store fundraising campaign with AdoptAClassroom.org, bringing their total donation to date to $12.3 million.

To kick-off this year’s campaign, Burlington flash-funded 1,000 high-needs classrooms through AdoptAClassroom.org. This surprise donation helped equip 25,000 students with critical school supplies.

Cathleen F. is a first grade teacher in Texas who opened her email to find that she had a generous surprise donation from Burlington.

“I am so excited to use these funds to help my students have the best year possible,” Cathleen said. “I try to give them a safe and welcoming place to come each day and learn, as many do not have that environment at home.”

For high school teacher Shei’Londa B., Burlington’s surprise meant that her students could focus on meeting their goals without worrying where the supplies were going to come from.

“My students are in constant need of school materials and incentives that keep them fighting to do better,” Shei’Londa said. “Thank you Burlington for helping to provide a way for my students to keep their eyes on graduating and not having to worry about how.”

After surprising 1,000 teachers with classroom donations, Burlington launched their in-store fundraising campaign inviting their generous customers and associates to donate to AdoptAClassroom.org at checkout.

All of Burlington’s store locations, more than 900 in total, came together to raise donations for AdoptAClassroom.org. With the generosity of their customers and dedication of their store associates, Burlington helped put school supplies into the hands of more than 23,000 students at high-needs schools in their store communities across the country.

For Jillian, a ninth grade student, the donation her classroom received from Burlington meant even more to her than access to school supplies.

Burlington’s continued commitment to supporting high-needs classrooms in their store communities is helping millions of students like Jillian build brighter futures.
