Finding and Empowering Your Supporters

Many of our top crowdfunders say that the support of their friends, family, and community (aka supporters) is key to their fundraising success. Why is that?

When your aunt emails your classroom page link to her church group, or your bestie makes a post about the school supplies you need, your fundraising page has the potential to reach new donors from outside your normal social circle.

Many teachers also report that having someone else share their page and ask for donations feels less awkward.

Don’t be shy, supporters tell us that they feel great knowing this small action makes a big difference. Take it from Lisa, who has helped her daughter raise over $2,000:

Lisa and Katie

“I knew other people who would love to support Katie, so I sent it to a few people. The rest is history. It was just amazing. Every time she got a donation, you could just see the excitement in her. It was worth every brief second that it took me to hit that button to send it to people.”

Who Can Be A Supporter?

A supporter can be almost anyone who cares about supporting teachers and promoting equity in education. Here are just a few examples of people who might want to support a teacher’s classroom:

Family & friends
Student’s caregivers
Social media followers
Neighbors
Anyone (really!)

Supporters may also be donors, but they don’t have to be! Sharing a teacher’s classroom page link can be just as helpful as making a donation. Keep reading to find step-by-step instructions for finding and sharing a classroom page link.

Supporter Story: How Students & Their Caregivers Helped Brenda Fundraise

Brenda, PE teacher

Brenda, an elementary school PE teacher, has mastered the art of getting students and their caregivers involved in fundraising.

After the tragic loss of a student to childhood cancer, Brenda’s school raised roughly $40,000 to build an obstacle course in his memory. One reason their crowdfunding effort was so successful is that Brenda helped students and their families get involved every step of the way.

Ultimately, they were able to grieve and grow through the process.

Here’s what Tess, the parent of one of Brenda’s students said they felt about being a supporter:

My daughter Hazel was thrilled to be asked to be a part of the fundraising committee. She has a big heart and this was a great opportunity for her to see that she could make an impact.

I wrote a personal email to my coworkers explaining the fundraiser and that my daughter was part of the committee. I included one of Brenda’s flyers as well for informational purposes, along with the link.

My daughter was so proud to know that her mom and her mom’s work friends had contributed, and that made me proud to have been a part of their success.
