Students can’t learn if they’re struggling emotionally.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers saw an increased need to support their students’ social-emotional wellness (SEW). In addition to their classroom lessons, teachers help students learn social skills, manage their mental health, and regulate their emotions.

Your gift to the Social-Emotional Wellness Fund helps teachers meet their students’ social-emotional needs so they can thrive in and out of the classroom.

What is Social-Emotional Wellness and why does it matter?

According to the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning, social and emotional learning (SEL) is “an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.”

Social-emotional wellness has always been a priority, but it has become essential because young people struggle to manage the unforeseen stressors of the modern era. Investing in SEW now will help students heal and increase their resiliency.

“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for the generous grant that has made a tremendous difference in my classroom. As a special education teacher, my goal is always to support my students in every way possible, and thanks to your contribution, I have been able to create a social-emotional cart/closet that is making a world of difference.”

– Amanda, High School Teacher, $750 SEW grant recipient

“The journals and books I purchased using my SEW grant funds made a difference in my students’ lives. They have an opportunity to reflect on a daily social-emotional learning video and respond to it in the journals we were able to purchase through these grant funds. These journals have served as a deeper connection to my students and better understanding their thoughts, emotions, and needs through their journal reflections.”

– Kelly, Fifth Grade Teacher, recipient of $750 SEW grant and $1,500 Teacher Leader grant.

“The grant-funded sensory items have been a game-changer for my students. By providing them with the tools they need to regulate their emotions, improve their focus, and enhance their communication skills, these items have created a more inclusive and supportive learning environment. I am grateful for the opportunity to have made such a positive impact on my students’ lives.”

– Cassie, Elementary School Teacher, recipient of $750 SEW grant
