Welcome to AdoptAClassroom.org
Giving teachers the tools to educate our children starts with making it easy for members of the community to provide funding and support. Success happens one classroom, and one teacher, at a time.

I teach Algebra and Geometry to sophomores in a very low economic area in Waianae, Hawaii. At least a third of the students I teach are free and reduced, minorities, and are suffering some sort of hardship. We have a high poverty and many of my students are homeless, living in shelters, or living on the beach. Im trying to teach these students how important education is for them. My students come to me with a lot of practical skills of survival, but little hope for something better than what theyre experiencing. They have little or no concept of balancing checkbooks, getting a good paying job, and budgetting. Ive set up my classroom like a job, where my students get paychecks every week. They get paid $1 a day to be on time and do their work. They get checkbooks to spend some of this money on supplies and other products (snacks and such). At the end of the term, we have tax season and they submit their transaction records. Their remaining pay becomes extra credit points that are added
