I work for the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools office as the itinerant Teacher of the Visually Impaired and the Orientation and Mobility Specialist. My visually impaired and blind students range from infants through 12th grade. I have a large number of highly academic students who receive services from my program on a weekly or daily basis. These boys and girls have goals in the area of assistive technology, braille instruction, study skills, cane travel and much more. In addition, each summer approximately 12 of my students attend the Vision Program Extended School Year class. Every two to three years, I take my class from our rural, mountain community on a 3-day field trip to a large, Northern California city. I provide my students with a multitude of complex travel skills in the urban environment. The students ride buses and trains, and cross multilane intersections. Crossing a 6 to 8 lane intersection is an adventure for most of the kids. Moreover, we access the communitys museums, attractions and events. During the summer program, the students made and sold crafts. This earned our program $1300.00 towards our summer trip. Unfortunately, we need a total of $4000.00 to pay for the expenses. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Classroom supplies are always in short supply. Giving students the proper tools to learn helps them become more organized and successful students. Notebooks, paper, pencils, craft supplies, technology, books-all of these items are needed by students. Many students today come to class without the tools necessary to be used in class. The economy has left schools struggling to supply students with the basics for an education. Getting an education is the most important event in a childs life!
