This is a low-income school district. Because both parents work long hours to support their families, many of the students spend more than 10 hours a day in school between before-school care and extended school day programs. They eat all of their meals here and some dont even receive dinner at home. When they do go home, many of my students are alone, and could be caring for their younger siblings. Our school is currently located in a warehouse, and has been for 6 years. our old building was torn down and never rebuilt. Because of this, our current building is not zoned for an elementary school, is in an industrial area, has no playground and no outside space to run around. School is all these children have. Your donations would be supporting those who need it most.

I was hired as a new teacher in a newly added section of Kindergarten in September. My classroom started with only two teacher desks and a jungle gym (the classroom was a storage room before it became a classroom). Thank goodness furniture was eventually brought it, but supplies are scarce. Being that I work in a low-income area, the parents are grateful for what we do for their children, but don’t really have the ability to assist financially. Some can barely pay their own rent, never mind buy school supplies. I buy what I can, but as their teacher I want to be able to do more. Having extra funds to purchase things for the classroom such as pillows for our library, items for our dramatic play center or phonics and math center activities would be a huge help! Simple things like construction paper, journals or pencils do not cost much separately, but definitely add up over a school year. Kindergarteners learn by touching, seeing and hearing. I can talk and talk and talk but most children need to either see what I am talking about or have some type of hands on activity to go along with a concept. By adopting my classroom, you will have the ability to change the lives of seventeen (most likely more as the year goes on) children in a way that you could never imagine! THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!
