I teach primarily poverty level children. Our school is suffering due to the many cuts in funding to education. We do not have the financial means to purchase certain items that need to be replaced periodically. In Kindergarten, a very important part of learning occurs on a large area rug. These rugs need to be cleaned regularly and replaced as needed. Considering the ages of my students (5-7), they are often soiled with vomit or urine. Due to the high cost of these rugs, they are not replaced as often as they should be due to the lack of funds for such items. I purchase several items myself during each school year already for our units of study that we have as well as small items such as pencils, glue, birthday stickers, items for various holidays, etc.... It would be greatly appreciated if donations were available to help purchase a new rug for our classroom. My rug that is in my classroom now is 8 years old.
