Willow Crest Elementary is an urban, Title I K-6 school that serves 400 students. Two thirds of the students are bilingual, with 20 languages spoken. 100% of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Support programs include Indian Education, bilingual education, Title I, migrant education, special education and On Target, which is coordinated with a local mental health center.
The 17 students in my classroom represent 15 different cultures and 9 different languages. Many of the families are economically disadvantaged, struggling to meet basic needs like winter clothing, socks, a change of shoes for school or fees for field trips. A donation to my classroom would allow me to continue to provide for the students personal needs, provide scholarships for field experiences, and integrate hands-on technology into the students curricular activities.
