While you and I might enjoy technology, or at least see the value of it, the young students whom I teach NEED it! To them it is the 21st century gateway to real learning. It is not only the way that they learn best, but it is the way that they will learn and work for the rest of their lives. There are so many new technologies available, yet out of reach for the average classroom. I have a teacher computer but no student computers in my classroom but I have a great solution! One of the most incredible technologies is, of course, the iPad. With just one iPad we can make learning to read come alive for a whole group of readers. I could not even begin to explain the wealth of knowledge available through the iPad except to say that it includes the world! With an iPad we can read Dr. Seuss rhymes, learn the sounds that make up words and sentences and stories, play challenging spelling games, and listen to chapter books that we cannot yet read ourselves. We can become readers in order to learn and learners who read. And, if this is not enough, we can use the iPad to become mathematicians, scientists, writers, and good citizens. There are, in fact, no limits to what we can learn with an iPad!
