My philosophy in working with my 5th graders is to create a community of students that want to become life long learners. In doing so students in my class learn to love to read because they read what they love versus being told what they should love. Our goal as 5th graders is to read 40 books each in one year and most of my students have read an average of 3-5 in the year prior. In achieving this goal, we need books. Our school is a charter school and our school library does not offer many of the books we are hoping to read. My students will read 40 books from several different generes at a variety of levels.
