Classroom donations would help immensely! There have been so many times that more rudimentary experiments have been performed (or none at all) due to a lack of funds. Often, my own funds are spent for students to experiment with electronics, matter, rocks, space, and energy; however, my own funds only go so far. Hands on, discovery learning is more beneficial and motivating for students. It gets them excited about learning, because they can investigate with their own hands and learn from models that they have created. Furthermore, our students expectations have risen higher and higher. In order for these students to truly grasp the concepts of what they need to learn, they need more meaningful experiences. In addition, the students have the ability to remember these concepts when they learn through directed discovery learning. If we ant our students to build on these concepts in future years, we need to make the learning more meaningful and motivating right now. Th

3rd Grade
Casselberry Elementary School
I am a third grade teacher who has been teaching for over 40 years. My school is a Title I school with an enrollment of 750 students. 70% of the children are on free or reduced lunch. I have three computers in my classroom and 18 students who "share" the computers. I also have access to the computer lab one day a week for 40 minutes.
Most of my students do not have access to a computer at their homes. I also have students who are FIT students (families in transition) Therefore, the only computer time that they have is at school.
My dream would be to have a laptop available for each student in my classroom. I would, of course, be happy with one.
We have transitioned to test taking on the computer. This is difficult for some of the students as they do not have the needed computer skills. Having computers for each in the classroom would increase their skills, help to develop research activities and increase confidence in the children. It would also allow the students have a computer to call their own while in the classroom.
