Melody Elem School
I teach the most amazing and energetic African-American students, 14 girls and 13 boys, on the west side of Chicago. They are fun to teach and they have a great thirst for knowledge and exploration. They, unfortunately, live in a community that is known for violence and drug abuse. Our school population is 100% African-American and 97% of the students within this school receive free lunch. Many of the students within my class are from single family homes or living with a grandparent. It is amazing to see that, despite the circumstances, my students still find a way to come to school everyday, with joy in their eyes, and eager to learn. Having a donor(s) support our quest for learning and exploration, in and out of the classroom, would be AWESOME! My students would benefit from learning explorations (like field trips and museum tours) to extend our knowledge and learning from within the classroom, and learning materials (books for our library) to support our reading goals.
