I teach in an inner city school. I was hired just 2 weeks before the end of the first grading period this year, so my class spent the first quarter of their year with various substitutes. My classroom had absolutely nothing in it when I walked in the first day - not even enough desks and chairs for all the students. I have been working hard to make our classroom pleasant, cheerful, and functional - but it is difficult to do that when we don`t even have the basic necessities. Additional funding would allow me to make this classroom as nice as others in the school, and give my students pride in their workspace. I would like to create a reading area in the classroom, as well as provide games and activities for learning centers. We also need posters for our walls, and basic supplies like paper, glue, pencils, and scissors. My students have a lot to overcome in life - their classroom is the place to begin that journey. However, we need the tools necessary to begin.
