I teach in a small rural school district where we have a large population of students scoring poorly on state assessments. I am trying to implement modeling instruction where students learn through exploration and collaboration. Research supports this methodology for academic gain. I am seeking funds to purchase Vernier Data collection equipment that can be shared by our Math and Science Departments. This equipment will enable our students to learn investigative techniques and aid them in internalizing the skills and concepts being taught. This will allow them to use theses skills and concepts in a variety of situations, in other words, they will be able to use what they learn to problem solve in the real world. I currently have equipment for teacher demonstration only, which doesnt allow for students to take the initiative to explore and learn. Equipment ranges from $52-220 per item. Ideally we would have 7-10 of each item for small group work, but we can start small and grow as funds are available.
If you would like to assist students in strengthening their math and science skills through investigation and collaboration, your donation will help us to reach our goal of increasing student confidence and knowledge.
