My goal is to evoke a love for literacy by exposing my students to high interest books. However, most 7 and 8 year olds love nonfiction text. I need more nonfiction books in my library to keep them engaged as readers. Also, my students need the technology to record themselves reading and play it back as they reread. My emergent readers will hear errors, increase comprehension and improve their fluency through this process as well. In the meantime, we lack the Ipods (or recording devices) and books needed to keep my students motivated as strong life long readers.

I teach in a lower, economic status school with approx 89% at free/reduced lunches. I teach 25 students on average, and the same with my other 2 collegues. The students mostly come with needed supplies yet several come with no supplies. Teachers then pick up the slack. Because our budget has been drastically cut, and we have not had a raise in 4 years, we are in desperate need of supplies that are used almost on a daily basis. We really need student wipe boards and dry erase markers, glue sticks, Scotch tape, extra large tablets on spiral for teacher instruction, flashdrives for saving student work, CD's for making math song jingles for students to take home and use in class, colored paper for copying and other writing projects, card stock paper for making reading activities, and any math fact cards for partner use. Anything would be so greatly appreciated.
