Many of my students come to me well below a fourth grade reading level. We work very hard throughout the year reading, expanding our vocabulary, and using various resources to help them improve. I would like to have a wider variety of reading materials in my classroom for the students to use. They come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, and have varied interests. Any spark of interest in reading can motivate them to want to learn. The more materials available, the greater the chance they will see that spark. I would like to have the Scholastic Storyworks magazines for my students, as well as an additional bookcase filled with a wide selection of reading materials, including chapter books. The Storyworks magazine would cost approximately $170 for the year. There is also one for math available which includes using math in everyday situations.
