Norco Elementary School K-3
I teach first and second grade special education students. My class is composed of 8 boys and 1 girl. The students in my classroom are diagnosed with Autism, Speech Disorders, and Developmental Delays. The majority of my students are from low-income backgrounds and lack the resources that other students have at home. Research indicates that students benefit from reading at home with their families. Additionally, some parents are unsure of what they can do at home to help their child be successful in the classroom. A grant will enable me to purchase Take-home Literacy bags for students to complete activities with their parents. These bags are tied to local and state standards and will provide students with an additional opportunity to master literacy skills. I will use any funds received to buy a total of 9 canvas tote bags and the materials that go inside each bag. Each bag will have two fiction and two non-fiction books. Crafts, word searchers, and games that the child can play with his or her family will also be included. Students will be able to check out the back for two weeks at a time before getting a new bag. Upon completion of the bag, parents will provide feedback about how the activities helped their child and any other resources that I can provide to further assist them. By providing my class with a donation you are helping the students that struggle the most with reading. Thank you for your consideration.
