Hi everyone! I currently teach third grade at Deep Creek Elementary in Essex, Maryland. Although we have very caring families unfortunately most families dont stay long due to their limited incomes. Due to this our school is very transient and our students have many needs that simply cannot be met by their families. Most of our students do not come to school with all the necessary materials they need to be successful. As a teacher here for almost 4 years, I have spent a lot of time and money working to provide these resources to my students and their families. Any donations made to our classroom would be used to supply books, basic school supplies and instructional materials. Thank you in advance for considering donating to our classroom.

I am interested in having books donated to my school, Deep Creek Elementary. We are a Title 1 school in Baltimore County where a lot of our students do not have their own materials at home. Providing students with their own book to keep will improve reading fluency and achievement.

Getting middle school students engaged in reading can be tough. Whats even tougher is when a child wants to read a certain book, and I have to tell them they cant because we dont have it. The library at school is a place of relaxation and exploration for students. Many students here are unable to get to the public library, and dont have access to a home library that is as extensive as their imagination or minds. Students come in excited to bring home books. It has been proven that reading increases reading comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar. Offering a relaxing chair will invite students to read more in the library itself. Middle School is a time when readers are lost and I dont want to lose a single one due to not having what they want. Supporting this project will make a difference to my students by allowing their love of reading to flourish and blossom. At the moment that we persuade a child, any child, to cross that threshold, that magic threshold into a library, we change their lives forever, for the better. -- President (then Senator) B Obama
