I teach in an underprivileged area where we are constantly trying to keep the students motivated and interested in coming to school. Unfortunately they do not receive a lot of support at home so it is our job to provide them with as much support and guidance in school in order to help them achieve success. I registered for Adopt-A-Classroom hoping to obtain some materials for my third grade classroom to bring out the wonderful readers and writers that I know they can be. With my students ranging in abilities I want to make sure that I can build upon each individual child’s strengths and improve upon their weaknesses. I feel like if I had the opportunity to buy more hands on and engaging materials my students will be more willing to take chances and experiment with the content. One material that I would love to purchase is Reader’s Theatre. I know that my students love to perform and act. This would give them that opportunity while still practicing and reinforcing fluency, decoding, and comprehension skills which are all areas that they struggle with. Another addition to the classroom that they would enjoy would be a class set of chaper books that they could keep. Something so simple as owning their own book would spark motivation and interest to read which is something that they are not so eager to do. Hopefully with your help we will be able to ensure that these wonderful students obtain the best education available to them.
