I have a small busy basement classroom with two windows. My school district has generously supplied me in the past but this year`s budget cuts mean that I buy pencls, markers, paper, DVDs, scissors, rulers, copy books, etc.
My students are immigrants; I teach them in science, writing, math and history as well as English.
I buy books for kids to read on Amazon. I look for wonderful on-island opportunities. There are, for sure, needier programs but I love this idea of sharing. Every little bit helps and supports children and young adults. I`m open to ideas for ways to enrich my classroom and make learning even more useful and exciting. For the last two years, a generous couple adopted my classroom and helped me supply the ESL programs in the elementary, middle and my school. I was able to purchase items to enrich the science curriculum. This year, I shared half the donation with a summer school enrichment program for incoming kindergarteners who dont yet speak English. The teachers used the money to purchase art supplies and manipulatives to supplement a small budget. Thank you so much!

I teach CAD and design to upper level high school students. My goals are to foster creative thinking in a technological world. I teach students how to communicate with CAD and solid modeling.

As with most districts, we are experiencing the pinch of tight budgetary times. This directly affects the classroom experience as it limits what supplies and equipment we are able to purchase. Students families are also struggling financially, and this directly affects how prepared they are when they come in to school everyday. In years past, most teachers ran on the assumption that students would come to school with a certain standard set of supplies. It is more common now, however, that families cannot afford even basic supplies. The burden of this cost is often passed on to the schools and classroom teachers. Money is spent on basic supplies, and consumes the budget that was previously meant for content specific purchasing.

Please consider adopting my math classroom. I have around 100 students with a wide range of needs and a very small budget to try to meet those needs.
Any donations would be appreciated and used to improve the effectiveness of learning. It is really hard to hands-on meaningful activities without basic supplies. Your donations will help buy both supplies for individual students and daily supplies for the classroom, like: lined and graph paper, rulers, compasses, protractors, white board markers, erasers, binders, 2 pocket folders, small notebooks ,assignment notebooks, tissues, AAA batteries, .... Also, a few of my honors students are having trouble buying the $110.00 TI-84 graphing calculator that is required for the course. Not all families on Nantucket can invest that amount of money toward school supplies, so I am hoping to be able to help them as well.

With a curriculum of printmaking, ceramics and digital photography, the most basic materials are needed; Fabric, paper, ink and other equipment is essential. Clay, glazes and plaster in addition to printer inks and photography paper are all essential to the student experience in these classes. Without classroom materials I would not have the opportunity to introduce students to these media and the related career opportunities that exist in these fields.

Art classes run on supplies that are expendable, yet are however expensive. The better our supply closet, the richer the art experience for each child. Art allows self discovery for students and provides those who are often unheard with a means to have a voice, a vital, vibrant way to express their thoughts and feelings. Art students become the creative, out of the box thinkers and problem solvers that are so needed for our future. Without supplies, their visions are not seen, their unique voices not heard their creativity uncultivated. Please help inspire a future generation.

My classes for the 2010/2011 school year include College-Prep English II, Honors English II, AP English Lit & Comp, and Journalism. My classroom needs include copies of the daily New York Times for my English and Journalism classes. The school used to fund that request but no longer. My classroom supplies needs include easel paper, which I use for weekly vocabulary work -- I like to keep challenging words posted around the room so students and I integrate new words into our discussions and written work. I also need markers, lined paper, poster paper and other supplies you would imagine. I greatly appreciate any funding amount you can offer! Thank you, thank you!!!
