My Student: Can you imagine not being able to hear or see? Our student has Progressive Myopia and Photophobia. She also has a moderately-severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss. Due to her hearing loss, our student’s vocabulary and language is delayed. This affects comprehension of spoken and written language. To address her vision and hearing needs, she currently uses a dome magnifier, large print books (when available), a light, a lap-top with a zoom lens visualizer, a large but very basic calculator, a personal FM/microphone sound system, and a hearing aid. The instructional aide that works with her must also enlarge all assignments and worksheets. The problem is that even with all the accommodations for her vision and hearing needs, her education is still limited because of scarcity of necessary resources.
