My students are from a largely rural area. The economic outlook here in the thumb is bleak and the children are particularly impacted. Many come from divorced, single parent, or working poor families who have no extra resources to spend. Central is a Title 1 school which points to the economic hardships here. Lack of exposure to books and electronic media puts my kids at an academic disadvantage so in addition to paper bound books, I am requesting a white board and grade appropriate software to go with it and/or a modern overhead projector. This may seem like a request that is not as important as, say, schools with no paper or pencils. I would like to make a case that without technology, our future leaders are going to be at a severe disadvantage once they reach work age.
