I am an Alternatice Education high school science teacher. I have been teaching with our alternative education program for three years. Our student population is greater then 75% impoverished and many of our students attend school with limited resources. We have a low attendance rate and many of the ways we create a warm welcoming environment is by providing snacks, clothing and al lot of meaningful hands on interactive activities for our students. The population is dynamic and sometimes we have to put a limit on the number of students that can attend our program because of resources and staff members. Our program, in it's third year has shown great progress and success for students that wouldn't have been successful in a regular high school setting. Our program is located in our education building that is a very old school with outdated classrooms. Our staff continuously shares many of their personal resources with our students, which is genuinely appreciated.
