I teach at a Title I school in which most of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. We have a large hispanic population, some of which enter kindergarten not knowing any english. Many of these students are facing the challenge of learning a new language as well as adjusting socially, academically, and emotionally in the classroom. Having the extra funds would be beneficial in many ways. With the extra funds I would be able to get the resources that would meet my student's needs as well as prepare students for the 21st century skills. As a second year teacher I do not have the literature collection that I would like to have in my reading center. I would like to expand my reading center and give my students the opportunity to be able to read books at their level ( Levels A through F) and be able to take home weekly. Further more I hope that one day I will be able to bring nooks into my classroom and add the nooks as a center. With the nooks I would be able to download apps that will reinforce letter recognition, letter sounds, sight word recognition, rhyming, colors, shapes, as well as math skills. I believe that technology is a resource that has helped many students to succeed and would be an essential part in my classroom.
