I teach first grade in West Fargo, ND. Literacy is a key component of our day. As a teacher, I am always looking for ways to keep students engaged in the learning process. During our literacy blocks, we do many hands on word building activities. All of these activities are purchased by me or volunteer parents. My students love doing them and they are beneficial, so I don't hesitate to buy them. However, over time, the purchases add up.
It is crucial to have a literature rich environment in the primary grades, so I strive to have different leveled books available (so all the kids can find a level that they are successful at). Over the years I have tried to continue building up my classroom library. As any teacher would say, you can never have enough books! :)
Another part of literacy that is important is to listen to reading. My students have the opportunity to listen to books on tape. However, I only have one boom box (CD player) and 2 headphones. It would be amazing to be able to have multiple boom boxes and headphones. Books on tape are also expensive, so that is something I am continually trying to build up also.
Anything would be so generous and helpful!
Thank you so much for taking the time to consider helping our classroom!
