My school is made up of Mid to low income families who need help to provide supplies and ideas to encourage parents to work with their children at home. My plan is to make take home bags that contain literature and hands on (manipulatives, flash cards and activity cards) items for students to practice skills in Math and Reading. Parents will check out the bags, to work with their children at home. Not using paper and pencil,but fun activites that will be teaching, practicing and reviewing concepts taught in class. One example, Mouse Paint, a book on colors and color words. I would include water colors, mouse counters, number cards,activity cards made up of color stickers, magic markers, and suggestions parents and students can do together. There are so many office supplies that would work to make up these bags. Many books can be matched up with Math and Reading skills that students need to master. If money permits, to buy computer games to practice skills and increase technology available to my students. I may also include these in the take home bags. Class supplies like crayons, glue, run off paper, theme computer paper, whyte board markers, magic markers and stickers would be very beneficial too for the whole class.
