I currently teach 10th and 11th grade English at McLoud Schools. I have created a poetry unit for the students to help them understand how to read and write poetry. The students seems to struggle with both writing and reading poetry. There are many books that are available to use that will help students learn what words rhyme, which will increase their understanding of how to rhyme as well as increase their vocabulary, and how to look at the hidden meaning of words, which will help students to read between the lines and look deeper into word meanings. If I was able to get some books for the students to use, I feel it would increase student understanding and productivity. I also like to use technology when introducing poetry and other classroom assignments. However, I am limited on what I can do because of the lack of technology in our school. So any form of technological aid would help. For example a smartboard or projectors.
