I am the K-5 Special Education teacher in a Learning Center classroom. The students that I serve have learning disabilities, Autism, Emotional Disorders, and various other ailments that prevent them from learning at the same rate as their same age peers. My students are performing at least 2 or more grade levels below their same age peers, so as you can imagine sitting in a classroom and not knowing how to do the work can be frustrating. To help the students overcome this frustration, I offer incentives to push them to not give up and to keep learning. What I do in my classroom is I have my students earn prizes, by setting up positive behavior systems, such as students earning points by completing work, following directions, or helping another student. Your donation would help me purchase items that will serve as a positive reinforcement for the hard work that they do on a daily basis. The main thing I want my students to do is experience success. Your donation would also enable me to purchase reading material that will appeal to my students and they will want to read more. I would purchase books that can be used in the classroom as novel studies, silent reading, or create a check-out system. I have found that students who have trouble reading will do better if the books are at their level, culturally relevant and of high interest, they will begin to enjoy reading, and become better readers. I appreciate your taking time to read this and want you to know that your donation would change the lives of my students and I will be forever grateful.
Sincerely,
