The students who travel to the chorus room are in grades 8-12 at Blackhawk High School. In the choral classroom, they learn how to experience music through different genres, compose music of their own, learn about the composers who wrote the music we sing, and share in the joy of making music. The choir room is not only home to choir, however; Blackhawk is proud to offer The Music Academy, in which students who are passionate about music can take lessons in their voice or instrument, take 4 years of music theory, and participate in multiple ensembles. Room 400 is the home to many musical memories, and Blackhawk music students make teaching and learning fun!

In this day and age public education is under fire and so is the spending for public education. Some school districts have decided to save money by cutting the music and fine arts programs. My district has been very nice to me, but funding is also down. I am currently using instruments that were purchased in the 1960s and need to be replaced. Such instruments are concert bass drums, timpani, various mallet instruments, tubas, harmony clarinets, double reeds, baritone saxophones, and tenor saxophones. We are also in need of basic technology that is driving the modern classroom. I just currently got a projector, but I do not have a smartboard/polyvision board or document camera in my room. These are important to todays successful classrooms. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
