My high school students are ones diagnosed with Significant Identifiable Emotional Disabilities or Specific Learning Disabilities. It is my responsibility to help guide them towards positive post-secondary outcomes which can include employment, college studies, and independent living. In my classroom, I support students with research-based math supports, study skills instruction, and opportunities to become prepared with skills to succeed after high school. I envision using donations to purchase classroom materials and technology to help students refine their personal (soft) skills and create personal portfolios (i.e., resumes, cover letters, sample job/college applications etc.) they can take and show potential employers and/or college recruiters. Technology to be purchased would include laptop computers, a video camera, a tripod, and memory cards. As I've learned, students' interview and conversational skills improve markedly when they see themselves on screen. These are skills that transfer into any environment.
