8th Grade
Lackawanna Trail Jshs
As an eighth grade teacher in a rural school district, I strive to teach my students about the world around them, both near and far. I believe it is important to teach students about diversity and the benefits of respecting and understanding different beliefs, value systems and talents. I believe it is important to mesh a strong understanding of various cultures and the challenges we face in the world with simple, sustainable solutions that not only respect but celebrate our diversity. I engage my students in various research projects where they can demonstrate their understanding of the governments, economic systems and cultural differences of various countries. This year, I plan to incorporate science and entrepreneurship by challenging my students to come up with solutions for the challenges facing our world. Students will be charged with inventing simple solutions to complex problems. For instance, providing safe water to rural villages or finding innovative ways for areas without electricity to charge cell phones and other technical equipment. I will need to provide various materials to my students to assist them in creating their inventions. I believe this will be an outstanding project that will remain with the students for the remainder of their life. Your help will truly make a difference in our world!
