Cary Laucomer
3rd Grade
Westmoor Elementary School
I recently completed my master's degree in Instructional Technology. I teach third grade in a district that does not recognize a need for 21st century literacy or technology in math and science. I have attended conferences on effective implementation of computers and technology in the classroom and strive to prepare students for the global world they will be working in, while aiding them in developing innovation, problem solving, critical thinking, and self-directedness through active problem-based and project-based learning activities. I am eager to help turn my students into creators rather than passive learners and feel that full-time access to technology is a necessary component in doing so. As a major part of my graduate studies, I did a case study on one-to-one laptop initiatives and learned much about utilizing them in the most effective ways. I also plan to attent the ISTE conference in San Antonio this summer to continue to further my learning.
I would make the best possible use of the purchase of iPads for each of my students. I trust that the results will help to convince my behind-the-times administrators of the need to integrate technology into all aspects of students' learning.
Sincerely,
Cary Laucomer
