I have a diversity of students from Caucasian to Hispanic to African. I would say about 1/3 of my students have parents who were born outside of the United States. So this ELL (English Language Learners) culture creates a different atmosphere in the classroom that is very unique to some of the schools in Sioux Falls. I am very pleased to have taught here for 17 years. We always can use more math manipulatives like connecting cubes. We are always needing more math dice--regular and foam and ones with dice inside dice for place value work, etc. We like dice of all sizes and textures with dots on as well as numbers. We do many math activities with these dice. It is always nice to have storage bins and carts to store all the math manipulatives also. I am always looking for more storage containers for my reading books also. We also like having sentence strips for writing sets of numbers on to have the students figure out numbers written on them as well as for writing sentences for sequencing on the pocket chart. We are always looking at having more and more technology in the classroom. We have a wireless computer lab that we can check out on a weekly basis. We have iPads that we use. These are always nice to have. I have two of these now but one will be going back to the school because of the grant for its use is ending soon. We use the SmartBoard in the class. I am always looking to get more cd players and headphones for my listening center for Daily 5 reading. I also would like to have more bean bags or comfy small pads for sitting in a different spot than the child's desk to read by themselves as well as with a partner around the room. I spend a lot of money on different things each year for my classroom. It would be very nice to have a business adopt my classroom to help lower the out-of-pocket expense for me. I appreciate your support in helping my classroom and students out with this. Thank you!
