I teach speech-therapy. This means that I get the opportunity to teach 50 or more student's lives a year. I teach students how to say their sounds, how to have smooth and fluent speech, increasing their language skills through literacy and vocabulary vocabulary, teaching them socially appropriate ways to interact with others, and celebrating their successes and being there for them when they need someone to listen and support them. I see some students for a short time, but others I see from the time that they are 3 years old until they graduate from 5th grade, and my life is enriched by each student who walks through my door.
I would love to be able to enrich my student's lives through the use of expanded technology in the speech room. This includes additional iPads (we currently have one), iTunes cards for the purchase of apps (apps, even the .99 cent ones add up), and computer programs (HearBuilder from SuperDuper).
The students that I serve would also benefit from books. Books offer a lot of learning opportunities for students, be it socially acceptable behavior, vocabulary, grammar, morals, or just life experiences. In my room we center each month around a theme and the students are able to "check out" units to take home to their families to show what they are learning that month.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated, it is the generosity of others that helps students have the materials and learning experiences that help them succeed in their academic and social lives!
