Erin LeCroy
3rd Grade
Sunset Park Elementary
This year I will be teaching a group of gifted and talented students. They will be with me all day, so I am faced with the challenge in this fast-moving world to enrich and accelerate their learning. With the new Core Curriculum Standards, there is a huge push for more nonfiction texts. Our grade level plans together and shares materials. Any donations would benefit an entire third grade. The other three third grade classes are very diverse in economic statuses. Most of those students are underprivileged and come from a home without computers. Some are being raised in single family homes, or by grandparents, where others are living with two hard working parents that cannot provide enough home support for these students. Our district has about a 50% poverty rate. We are working hard to gather funds for purchasing iPads and other smart technology. With iPads alone, the possibilities are endless. It opens the door to many informational texts, allowing us to integrate math, science, social studies, and language arts. We are also looking for funds to purchase online assessment tools. This will help us give immediate feedback to the students, so they can continue to grow as learners. Many companies sell literature that support these online assessments. One is Storyworks by Scholastic. So, as you can see, my 3rd grade students along with other 3rd graders at Sunset Park Elementary will greatly benefit from a donation! Please help us by making a donation to support our next step in ensuring success!
