I work with the children of new and recent immigrants. These children have very little modern comforts or privileges at home. We struggle to provide them with warm winter clothing, including snow pants and snow gloves that would protect them from the harsh weather in North Dakota. These students also don't have books at home to read. Most of these families are larger and rely on public transportation which makes trips to our town library difficult if not impossible. It is said that a student should have over 100 books available at his/her level to make growth. I'd love to be able to provide books to take home, read, and bring back to exchange for additional books.
