Middle school is such a critical time when students begin to discover who they are and what their roles are in society. For all middle school students this can be a "big" time in their life; and I believe even more so for students with special needs. In the lifeskills classroom there are several tools I would use to promote student success including trendy assistive technologies such as Apple iPads so students can recieve assistive services but instead of toting around big foreign devices this could serve as a point of interest with typically developing peers; I have recently purchased a Nintendo Wii for the classroom and I would love to purchase more games for students to interact with, recreation and appropriate ways to partake in recreational activities is often an academic area of focus for life skills students so items such as movie tickets, bowling passes, exercise/gym memberships are also specific to this group of students to promoting educational success, finally I would like to get games for the classroom specific to students learning needs such as Jenga for working on occupational therapy, Socially Speaking for analyzing emotion, pass the pigs for practicing calculator speed and accuracy as well as others per student need. The emphasis in this classroom is age appropriate activities as well as transactional learning because I know these students will teach me as much if not more than I can ever teach them ;) Happy Summer & thank you for reading/your interest in helping students succeed in their education :)))
