The students in my classroom are from an urban area of Philadelphia. For some students, school is a safe place to go, and a place where they can be a child. About 40% of my students are bilingual, or just learning English for the first time in 4th grade. Over the course of the year, my students will learn to love school, and it will be difficult to get them to go home. Resources in our district are scarce this year due to budge cuts. I do not mind spending my money on my classroom, and happily do so. However, this year, my class size is nearly doubled, and the needs are greater. I have a varied level of students (from those who are reading above level to those who are barely recognizing letters). I know my class appreciates everything I have in the classroom, but my goal as their teacher is to give them as much as I can.
