Tsehootsooi Middle School has adopted the AVID program -Advancement Via Individual Determination.
We are seeking 1.) funds for the Tsehoostooi Naa t’anii Project Purpose: Students will be exposed to college and career awareness by visiting colleges and participating in leadership conferences. Students will implement a College and Career Leadership Conference for the Window Rock School District. Students will be empowered to take charge of their education as they visit colleges and participate in leadership conferences. As a result AVID students will begin setting personal and academic goals for college and career aspirations. WRUSD Students will demonstrate effective critical thinking skills and take ownership for the Tsehoostooi Naa t’anii Leadership Conference as they are planning preparing and executing the conference. AVID students will select topics, lead collaborative study groups and lead discussions during philosophical chairs and Socratic seminar activities in the AVID Leadership Conference. AVID students will model and demonstrate leadership skills while collaborating with others in the AVID Leadership Conference and will lead activities to solve issues on campus and in the community.
Assessment Data collection and analysis from fieldtrip observation checklist, as well as, the fieldtrip self assessment and written reflections provides both data and feedback for students and tracks the success of the project. AVID Presentation Rubrics, along with student and parent surveys will measure the impact of leadership conferences. AVID site team will analyze test data to determine if Leadership conferences have made an impact on student achievement.
Need:Window Rock Unified School District is located on Navajo Reservation and is classified as a TITLE I School District. The Student population is 99% Navajo. The average family income is $27,000, which is 34% less than average for Arizona. Poverty level is 24.5%. 2% of WRUSD students enroll in college. 1% of students finish college in five years.
