It is my goal for our students to be globally minded and filled with respect for other cultures and their contribution to history and to the development of Western Civilization. Expanding their experiences and immersing them in the cultures of the civilizations we study, will build their inner resources. The more exposure they have to the rest of the world, the better citizens of the world they will become. An understanding of culture and how civilizations are put together, will increase their ability to comprehend other reading material and will also increase their ability to prepare for the real world. We work diligently to instill their value and the value of others. The results are students who are more capable to function positively in real life situations. Having diverse lessons with projects that require research and hands-on development makes a huge difference in this cultural immersing. Being a title one school, our students and their parents already give to their limit. I would love to be able to provide materials for clay cuneiform tablets, sand and objects for mock archaeology digs, materials to build a mummy, art materials for a Renaissance travel brochure, and project materials (tri-fold boards, colored paper, glue, scissors, colored ink for colored illustrations, etc. ) for when they have to create their own civilizations at the end of the year.
