Phylis Kennedy
Kindergarten
Clara Barton Elementary School
Although I have taught 14 years in urban schools, this is my first year teaching kindergarten. I am truly excited about being able to kick start their learning experience and watch them soar! I'm also in the process of completing my technology degree and find the possibilities are endless on how to integrate technology into my classroom - even more so with your generous help and support. I have always integrated technology within my teaching because it's effective, ongoing and my students love it so much they look forward to practicing on much needed skills. I could incorporate any and all components that are available for donating; such as iPads, laptop computers, Tag readers and books, Smartboard/interactive whiteboard, computer headphones, etc. It's always so exciting to see how technology stimulates student interest and interaction with what they are learning. Since I was new at this school this past September, there wasn't much good furniture left in the classroom when I got there. So of course, there are also the typical items needed in my classroom; such as a new THICK rug - I'm located in the basement and have a concrete floor and the old rug is thin and SOILED):= It would also help to have comfortable seats/couch (preferably the little sets for primary grades) for our reading area (otherwise they'd have to sit on the cold floor or at their regular tables). The most important item (believe it or not!) is a WORKING tape/CD player - they're so expensive and do NOT seem to last very long (which has nothing to do with the students!). I want to thank you very much in advance for your consideration in donating these items so every student has an opportunity to enjoy coming to school and continue being excited about their experiences at school.
