Candace Metz
9th Grade
Hammond High School
I teach Math, World Geography, Grammar, Science, American History, and Social Skills to 9th-10th grade students who age 14-20 years old but academically function on a K-6 level (it varies). None of my students bring pencils, loose leaf paper, pens, kleenex, paper towels, hand sanitizer, index cards, etc to school and I have purchased all of it myself. I am a single mom to 2 daughters ages 11 and 17. Its enough to buy their school supplies! I am a creative teacher who uses lessons that have real world application such as creating a budget, measuring for building and for cooking, completing job applications, writing a thank you letter, teaching map reading skills, etc. I have textbooks for about 1/2 of the subjects but no consumables (workbooks, etc) and due to the IEPs, I create all of my own quizzes, tests, practice pages, etc. I also print out IEPs, behavior tracking forms, and other forms dictated by the parish. I am allotted a case of paper and 2 printer ink cartridges per year and that is not nearly enough! I have 6 student computers but no headphones. I have a melamine board instead of a dry erase board. I have 3 thesaurus. Id love a set of those! My desire to teach is strong but unfortunately, my paycheck isnt! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
