Students with special needs have many adversities they face in their lifetimes. Because they are academically behind their peers, frustration is a daily event for them. My students are in a self-contained special needs functional academics classroom setting. Their grades range from 1st through 6th grade. The students in my class have different disabilities including autism, mild and moderate cognitive disabilities, speech and language disorders, emotional/behavior disorders, and learning disabilities. They have difficulty functioning in a general education setting and need a lot of support. They are in a low income area where all of them are on free or reduced lunches. You will not only be providing better tools in a classroom, but a better foundation for those who are less fortunate.
