I teach fifth grade math, science, and social studies to two wonderful groups of students in what is considered a low income community. My teaching style is definitely hands-on, therefore, I need math manipulatives and materials for science experiments and projects. My goal this year is to increase my students’ problem solving skills. I hope to purchase computer software and problem solving journals that will allow my students to practice different strategies for solving problems. In addition, I need manipulatives to help teach skills such as fractions, decimals, and percents. Having items such as fraction bars, pattern blocks, and tower cubes will allow students to see the relationships between numbers and to visualize the “size” of these numbers. I also hope to purchase materials that will make my science lessons come to life for my students. We need equipment such as thermometers, timers, and balances. All help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping me increase and develop the learning potential of my students.
