My needs for my students begin at the most basic level. On a daily basis I must personally provide paper and pencils to students. As the year progresses the out-of-pocket expense really adds up. The students need handouts and paper work from me to take home and I can no longer afford to maintain the level of personal financing as in the past. With our school facing unspeakable financial constraints, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to acquire the copies from the school - there is simply no money. I use dry erase markers daily and these are very expensive and have a short life. To advance their geographical knowledge and reference and research skills, we require of a class set of Atlases and encyclopedias. In the past, I have used computers in the classroom and incredible software programs which enhanced student's reading and comprehension skills. It would be such a gift to teach using that modality again. Additional computers are required as well as the software and this cost would be in the hundreds. In the grandest scale of all, I dream of taking a group of students to Washington, D.C. Many of my students have never left their community, seen the beach or have taken a plane. My creativity is endless, but, I need more help and I know there are people willing and able to help.
