My students are often not motivated to read at home, the best way to practice their reading skills. Thus, I spend personal money to buy rewards for them. Last year for the first time, I was able to reward over thirty of my students who read a million words in both fiction and nonfiction genres, but I had to rely on a drawing to see who would be rewarded. If I had more classroom funds, I could reward them at checkpoints along the way as well as when they reach that final goal.
