Every year I ask my students what they remember from their last science class and each year I hear the same thing. They always remember hands-on laboratory activities! This is why I teach with 80% hands-on activities and only 20% other. With each topic, I include demonstrations, labs, and projects. However, with this method, it is necessary to have a lot of reusable equipment as well as non-reusable items, such as sugar, vinegar, baking soda, vegetable oil, and more.
Our school district currently has 56% of the students on free or reduced lunches and are considered economically disadvantaged. Therefore, the request for donations in the community is rarely met. We are in need of non-reusable items as well as permanent laboratory equipment, such as digital balances, microscopes, Vernier Probeware, Bunsen burners, chemical glassware, and more.
