SJS reaches out to 4th through 12th grade students. SJS has a four-part vision: college prep, Japanese language and culture, self-directed learning, and multi-age level presentations, advisories, and exhibitions. SJS receives only 80% of the state fund allotted monies due to the fact that SJS is a public charter school; the sponsoring district receives the other 20% per Oregon charter school requirements.
Additional funding would help SJS reach the new technology standards by having one or two classroom sets of computers for six teachers and more interactive equipment.
Additional money would also help SJS serve the students who are on IEP status or who may be eligible for IEP status. Individual lessons could be developed through online research and interactive individualized instruction.
SJS is not equipped with interactive boards, equipment, or up-to-date computers. SJS has fourteen out-dated computers and only one of the computers has word, powerpoint, excel, etc.
A donation to our school would help students create online portfolios and interact with students from Japan through web posting and interactive video making. The students at SJS also want to reach out to the community for creating a summer school promoting Japanese language and culture. The items found on this site would add interactive learning for greater achievement.
Most importantly, a donation proves to students that someone cares.
